The Professional DJ is the backbone of most peoples evening entertainment. Solid Gold has what is probably the largest stable of quality DJ's & discotheques in the area. They can provide a full nights entertainment or be part of an evening of entertainment that may include one or more other options below.

Then, depending on your choice of DJ, he will be able to co-ordinate your evening so that it runs smoothly & professionally. Remember professional & experienced DJ's who can cater for a mixed audience with a cross section of music are becoming more difficult to find, so please book early.

It's your day so your expectations will be high - Your DJ will be professional, well dressed & provide a quality sound & light show. During the evening some of favorite songs can be played.

BANDS

The array of bands on offer these days is daunting & ever changing. Perhaps we can advise you of bands that we have a good relationship with, vouch for their reliability, flexibility & attitude. These are qualities that are difficult to assess from a picture, a playlist or a demo disc. Below we have tried to provide you with a breakdown of bands by general style. JAZZ BANDS

Traditionally a jazz band has a lineup of five or six musicians , this will then include the full range of instruments, however in many cases a trio will do the job just as well & will reduce the cost significantly.

All our jazz musicians are professional & experienced & are available in some cases with or without a vocalist. An alternative to a full band may be a jazz pianist or jazz guitarist.

STEEL BANDS

Solid Gold only engages two west indian steel bands, so they are in great demand. They are both from Birmingham: 'The Tropical Islanders' & 'The Apollo Steel Band'

They are both great value for money as they will play for up to three hours.

They are ideal for a summer wedding, maybe with a caribbean theme but remember you need to book well in advance to be sure of securing one of these top bands.

CEILIDH & BARN DANCE BANDS

Ceilidh Bands are very popular at wedding parties. They are the ideal ice breaker, it's hard to ignore the requests of the 'Caller' to get up & dance.

The addition of a DJ or discotheque for the latter part of the evening may enhance your enjoyment of the evening as a whole.

SOUL BANDS

Soul bands in the style of 'The Commitments' or 'Blues Brothers' are most requested.

They are in great demand & are fully professional. Remember though they are large outfits & the sound will be of great quality, but also loud. They usually play for 2 x 45 minute spots.

The addition of a DJ or discotheque for the latter part of the evening may enhance your enjoyment of the evening as a whole.

SWING R&B BANDS

In recent years demand has increased for the Rat Pack style of swing. Often featuring a male or female vocalist or both. Their music crosses all generations, providing an irreverant mixture of american songbook standards.

TRIBUTE BANDS

These are particularly popular at present & include tributes to bands such as Abba, The Beatles & Robbie Williams.

They are most impressive, with an extraordinarily authentic sound. They are superb value for money but are in great demand so please book your tribute band early.

Other sound/look-a-like artists are available on request and can be booked either with a live band or on playback (tape backing).

POP BANDS

This group of bands can play '....a bit of everything..' - Rock, Pop, Blues, 50's & 60's, Soul & Motown & Party Music. They are all fully professional & because of the wide spectrum of music they provide are often able to sustain an entire evening's entertainment.

A number of our pop bands are among the very best in the country & are therefore always in great demand. If you have seen a band that particularly appeals to you, we can normally source them on your behalf or offer you an excellent alternative.
